I love a modern take on a classic. And one can never go wrong with a simple color pallet. Black, white, and cream can live in any environment. Hand-sewn details are timeless. The unexpected combination invites curiosity and intrigue both up close and far away.

Hand stitching, collage, and handmade paper are combined in these modern abstract art pieces.

Learn how to make these timelessly modern artworks in my new online class:  A Way of Seeing: Doing Art With Georgia O’Keeffe.

A Way of Seeing: Beauty is My Food

In my class, A Way of Seeing: Doing Art With Georgia O’Keeffe, that is one of the things we practice. We practice seeing beauty. We tend to that need for beauty and we believe there is always something beautiful and inspiring within the world around us. We open our eyes, we believe, we have the courage to see something new, and we feast.

A few years ago, sitting in our marriage therapist’s office I broke down in tears feeling very empty inside. I felt land-locked, isolated, and stuck.   I had wandered off my path a bit and lost sight of how much I required the pursuit of beauty in my life. My therapist looked at me and told me I need to make room for beauty in easy ways when the budget or time doesn’t allow for travel- “pick up a magazine or a design book to nurture that need because beauty is your food”

Beauty is my food.

It sustains me, and for me to fully be my best functioning self, I MUST pursue it.

I did not really know that much about Georgia O’Keeffe and her life until I picked up the book Georgia O’Keeffe Living Modern.  It is a beautiful deep dive into the way Georgia O’Keeffe dressed and designed her homes and curated her life.  A life of pursuing beauty and believing there is always more to be seen and noticed.

My New Class: A Way of Seeing: Doing Art With Georgia O’Keeffe

I am so happy to announce my newest class on Jeanne Oliver’s network! A Way of Seeing: Doing Art With Georgia O’Keeffe. Early registration pricing is $42 until September 15!

Georgia O’Keeffe’s life embodied the practice of Gesamtkunstwerk, which means” a complete work of art”

A life immersed in beauty? That is how I want to live. A life where my own sense of place, my home, my art, my family and the natural world around me all influence one another.

In A Way of Seeing: Doing Art with Georgia O'Keeffe I share my favorite practices that I picked up from my own deep dive into her modernistic life and world via the book Georgia O’Keeffe: Living Modern by Wanda Corn.

Join me in a weekly sketch practice that expands the way we see the world around us.  We draw. We stitch. We use stencils. And I share my favorite simple techniques for creating modern abstract art pieces in cohesive and monochromatic color palettes.

We let the sun make some magic by experimenting with cyanotype ink on foraged rocks and the classic bandana.  We will make a meaningful and practical studio tool that will grow more beautiful with each use.

Your art can inform everything.

‘Your Family Is So Big’ Available Now!

Paintings from my newest collection.

Paintings from my newest collection, ‘Your Family Is So Big’ are available now in my shop!

Over the past couple of years, a new status quo has settled across our social spirit: isolation, disruption, enclosure, and exclusion. Observers suggest this contemporary situation has in many ways uncovered a pre-existing bent toward dis-integration, implying a preference for alienation and distance. Against this interpretation, this show explores the ways in which our social relations are embedded in our beings, proposing a solution to our remoteness: an embrace of all things everywhere as kindred siblings. Your family is, indeed, so big.
